Karin Niehoff: Learner, Teacher and Founder of Crescent Montessori School

My first visit to the Grove Street Studios was 30 years ago when I took a series of water-color classes with Ray Jacobsen. That was the beginning of my journey as a student of art which included classes and workshops with: Nell Melcher, Robert Burridge, Dennis Ziemienski, Lia Transue, Keith Wicks, Mary Black, Susan Heerings-Piper, Brigette McReynolds, Dick Cole, Tom Collins Sha Sha Higby, Karl Ravich and too many more to remember for now. All of this learning took place within the marvelous studio classroom space of the Sonoma Community Center, my home as a Montessori Teacher for 32 years. I also learned along with my students with artist Rey Isip, local painter and photographer for four years while he was the art teacher for the school. Rey and I continue a mentoring friendship.

Voice coach and dear friend, Cynthia Tarr, guided me along the path of singing lessons rounding out my love of art and music. Now retired for one year I’ve come full circle back to the Grove Street Studios.

I’ll be showing my work from some of the above classes as well as new acrylic paintings at the Open Studio. My contemporary paintings are for sale at:

McCormick’s Mercantile, in Glen Ellen.
