Colette Gauthier Myles

Photographer, illustrator

When I take a portrait, I try to capture a person’s spirit. It is a wonderful exchange between the photographer and the subject, a rare moment.

I studied photography at the UC Berkeley ASUC studio and took portrait classes with Czech master photographer Vilem Kriz, who emphasized effects of light and “beautiful backgrounds.”

My original studies were in literature (Sorbonne, UC Berkeley). After a long career as a research librarian, I retired in Sonoma. Besides photography, I also write and do book illustrations. A few years ago, I started a small independent publishing company in Sonoma.
